Sure cuts the groove, makes it hard to be humble. But I trip and I stumble, like a scratched 45. Now it feels just like I'm tied on to a stone. You get to step on a crack just to break my bones. Guess I got my wish, guess I should have known. You would be my great regret, though I guess it hasn't hit me yet. Slow drag on my last cigarette, just a good excuse to take all I can get. You're the lesson I never learned, you're my sunburn .50 FIRST DATES

HAPPY ENDING: 27 DRESSES. Jonathan Nathaniel Ravensdale was born October 27, 1980 in Newark, New Jersey to parents Peter, a high school drama teacher, and Maria, a bank teller. John was the first of three children in the Ravensdale family, Emily and Dominic, three and four years younger than him respectively. The Ravensdales enjoyed a relatively normal and uneventful life in the city of Newark, with Peter and Maria hosting parties at least every two weeks, and the kids playing with the neighbours' children. Dinner was served promptly at 6:00 p.m. every night, and the weekends were often spent out and about the city, taking in the sights and enjoying time together as a family. And it drove John crazy.John Ravensdale;
From a young age, John longed for something more than the routines that his family had seemed accustomed to. Sure, it helped keep everything in order for a family of five, but routine was not something that John himself was fond of. He bit his tongue the majority of the time in his family's presence, content to just go along with anything that they suggested.
John did not rebel when he was a teenager, but he didn't conform either. He loved his family, and in reality, saw no reason to rebel against them. While his friends would tell of annoying fathers and overbearing mothers, John would simply shrug his shoulders and was thankful for the family he had been blessed with. The only thing John did that would be considered rebelling in the slightest was purchasing an electric guitar and playing it at odd hours of the night when other people in the house were trying to sleep.
But his father seemed adamant that John should pursue a career in acting. When he reached the high school that Peter taught at, John did everything he could to involvement in the arts at all costs. His father seemed to have the idea that John would be perfect on Broadway. John had never acted a day in his life, and his attempts at dancing were laughable. Instead, John had set his sights on mathematics and sciences - despite not being any good at them.
It wasn't until the second semestar of the eleventh grade that Jonh begrudgingly admitted to himself that maybe he had inherited some of his father's creative genes. His marks in advanced mathematics, calculas, biology, and chemistry were less than stellar. On a whim, he'd audtioned for a production of Othello that the school's drama club were putting together. Peter had not been there to witness his son's audition, and therefore had not had any influence in choosing John for the role of Iago. The play had been a success, but at the same time, John did not see himself pursuing a career in acting as his father wanted him to. In fact, John didn't see himself doing much of anything. He couldn't see as far in the future as his friends seemed to, having already mapped their entire lives. With the majority of his friends going to NYU, John was left in Newark to listen to his parents insisting that he do something with his life other than taking his guitar and busking on the waterfront for money.
Two years after graduating from high school, John and a group of his friends went to Washington, D.C. on a whim. They had only planned to spend a week seeing the sights, but while taking a tour of the Smithsonian Institution, John struck up conversation with a sweet redhead named Laurel whom he decided that he would stay a couple of extra days in D.C. with. A couple of days turned into a couple of weeks, weeks into months, and John eventually sent for his things back home in Newark.
The relationship with Laurel didn't last long. In fact, days after John's things arrived, he and Laurel broke up, as she was returning to college and he was not interested in attempting a long distance relationship. At twenty years of age, John Ravensdale was on his own in a strange place, with no money, and nowhere to go. He was thrilled and in his element.
John managed to get two part time jobs shortly after he and Laurel broke up. One being fetching coffee for the radio personalities and staff at WWDC (FM), better known as DC101.1 FM, DC's Rock Station, the other working at a Blockbuster Video. While he absolutely detested his shifts at Blockbuster, he throughly enjoyed working at the radio station, even if it was simply doing tedious bitch work. John expressed interest in one day going on the air, but knew that was the sort of thing that came with at least some schooling and depended on who you know in the industry.
Lucky for John, he just so happened to know people in the industry who were keen on his outgoing personality and odd sense of humour. When the late night radio host left to pursue bigger and better things (John never figured out what those things where), John was put on the weekday late night show called Quoth the Raven from midnight until 5:00 a.m. At only twenty-three years of age, John was the youngest host that DC101.1 FM ever had. Since then, John has managed to move away from the late night/early morning show, and managed to secure himself the 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. slot, often referred to as Workless Work Days with John.John's love life has consisted of a few relationships here and there, but nothing has lasted more than a year for him. Earning the nickname The King of the First Dates from his friends was earned honestly. John does well very well with women. He exudes a bad boy image that a majority of women seem to go wild for - tattoos, piercings, and an air of "I don't give a fuck."50 First Dates;
While John has little to no problem asking a woman out, acquiring her phone number, and taking her out for an evening that usually includes dinner and a good time, getting past the first date is often a chore for him. And the first date often goes well for both parties there is just some underlying reason why date two never happens.
He looses the girl's number, she breaks her ankle the day after and she perceives his lack of being able to find her as avoiding her, he meets her bigger, tougher, angrier, boyfriend, she is completely turned off by his smoking, and so on. The circumstances, if retold in a movie, would be quite hilarious, and even John gets a kick out of it now and then. But there are times when he gets frustrated with his lack of ability to get beyond date one. He's more than open to finding "the one," he just hopes that she isn't part of a terrorist organization who skip the country the day after their first date.Storylines;
taft (HIS GIRL FRIDAY) ; former flame (2000), former roommate (2005 to 2007), current neighbour.
Laurel Taft is the reason that John is in Washington. While vacationing in the late spring of 2000, he'd locked eyes with her on a tour of the Smithsonian Institution. John had only planned to stay with Laurel a couple of extra days, but things progressed faster than he had intended. He had ended up staying with her at a friend's place, and eventually moving his things in. Unfortunately for John, Laurel was only home for the summer with plans to return to college. While she was more than willing to try a long distance relationship, John was not, and the two broke up, although on good terms. Five years later, upon Laurel's return to D.C. after graduate school, she had responded to an ad in the newspaper for a roommate. Imagine both her and John's surprise when the other had been standing on the opposite side of the door. She and John had an easy friendship and roommate relationship. While John could have easily afforded to live on his own, he very much enjoyed the companionship and was more than happy to be rooming with Laurel. She later moved out with a boyfriend, but moved back in after three months. After finding out that she was pregnant, Laurel was insistant that she move out, eventhough John didn't particularly want her to. When the apartment next door became available, Laurel happily took it, and John was pleased that she wasn't too far away.mccleod (WORKING GIRL) ; former flame (2005 to 2006).
John considers his relationship with Maggie to be one of the most important in his life. The two met through her half sister, Laurel, shortly after she moved into his apartment. With Maggie spending time at John and Laurel's apartment, the two got to know each other fairly well and began a friendship which was the kind of platonic friendship that very few men and women seem to achieve. After a night of movie watching in an apartment void of Laurel, things progressed to the next level, simply because it had seemed right. The two had a passionate relationship which consisted of Sunday afternoon drives to nowhere in particular, crossword puzzles on rainy days, and other romantic things of that sort that make other people gag. John actually went with Maggie to get her first tattoo, because she had been so nervous to get one - he'd also obtained another in the process. Toward the end of their relationship, Maggie began spending a lot more time at work, causing a rift between the two, which John tried to fix many times. Things came to a head one evening in early 2006 when John brought the matter up. After a fight that lasted well into the early hours of the morning, and one last "big bang," Maggie and all the things she had left in John's room were gone. It took John a long time to get over Maggie, as he had been confident that she was "the one," and hasn't felt that way about anyone since. The two are now very close, as John can't imagine having it any other way. He has a huge soft spot for her, and while he believes that their relationship ended for a good reason and they're better off now, he still sometimes wonders if she's "the one."mirandarowle (EVER AFTER) ; former flame (2006).
John and Miranda met a year and a half ago at Skye Lounge, both out on a night on the town. After too many martinis, the two ended up back at John's place for the remainder of the evening. Not having a first date with Miranda might have been the reason why the two endured a month long relationship together. The two broke up because Miranda was certain that John wasn't the one she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. The two still remain close friends and being as opinionated as he is, John constantly is constantly telling Miranda why she hasn't found "the one" yet. This often segues into them sleeping together, mainly because Miranda wants John to "shut his damn mouth."almas (SEX AND THE CITY) ; former flame.
richotte (HOW TO LOSE A GUY IN 10 DAYS) ; former flame (2008).
When Kendall and John met, he had just finished performing a small set at Modern Times' Unplugged Open Mic in April. Kendall had been sitting at a table by herself, waiting for some friends, and John had insisted that she let him buy her a cup of coffee. Things progressed from there, Kendall leaving with her friends shortly afterward and leaving John with her phone number. The two went on a couple of dates before becoming somewhat "official." Much to their surprise, they lasted until the end of May. Kendall eventually got fed up with John constantly being "on." He never could keep his mouth shut for more than five minutes, and it got to a point where just the sound of his voice made her cringe. They did break up on good terms, however, realizing that they would make much better friends than lovers.daviies (KNOCKED UP) ; current love interest.
wilcroft (27 DRESSES) ; happy ending.
hfinn (RUNAWAY BRIDE) ; unrequited love.
hollyd (ALONG CAME POLLY) ; unrequited love.
ksweeney (CLUELESS) ; "sister-like" friend.
While sitting in Starbucks sketching, Kayla happened to catch John's eyes. Suddenly overpriced coffee that he could probably do a better job of making himself didn't seem like such a bad idea. John had stood next to her table, attempting to flirt with her, but hadn't really gotten anywhere. While she had flirted back, it was in the "Aw, you're cute for trying," sort of way. Kayla eventually invited John to sit down with her, and the two struck up easy conversation. A year and a half later, the two are still friends who often meet in Starbucks at random. John has since given up on flirting with her, and instead takes genuine interest in her as a friend. Often after a failed first date, or lack of a second one, he'll go to her, and they will cuddle on her couch and eat ice cream. John refuses to admit he enjoys this and tells himself that it's simply an excuse for him to touch her breasts.alln (FORCES OF NATURE) ; friend.
